In the 2011 legislative session a bill was passed which included two provisions related to curriculum. First, DCDEE would implement the North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten program. One of the requirements of this program is to use a curriculum approved by the NC Child Care Commission. Second, the legislation requires all four and five star programs to use an approved curriculum in classrooms with four-year-old children.
The Division of Child Development and Early Education periodically convenes a committee to evaluate early childhood curricula. The review is based on a set definition of curriculum and established criteria for evaluating quality curriculum. Select the link below and scroll to the last two pages of the document for the current definition of curriculum and the criteria for curricula approval.
