Overview In the 2011 legislative session a bill was passed which included two provisions related to curriculum. First, DCDEE would implement the North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten program. One of the requirements of this program is to use a curriculum approved by the NC Child Care Commission. Second, the legislation requires all four and five star programs to use an approved curriculum in classrooms with four-year-old children. Approved Curricula The Division of Child Development and Early Education periodically convenes a committee to evaluate early childhood curricula. The review is based on a set definition of curriculum and established criteria for evaluating quality curriculum.
