Workforce Education Unit

The Workforce Education Unit supports the early childhood workforce in meeting educational requirements by completing education evaluations based on North Carolina Child Care laws and rules.  Required information and technical support are provided to the early childhood workforce, to help meet North Carolina child care education standards.

The following positions are qualified by the Workforce Education Unit:

  • Site Administrators / Directors / Principals (Early Childhood, School Age, Department of Public Instruction)
  • Lead Teachers / DPI Teachers
  • Teachers / DPI Teacher Assistants
  • Family Child Care Home Providers
  • Group Leaders
  • Program Coordinators 

To date, the Workforce Education Unit serves a total of 170,223 teachers. With the implementation of the Division of Child Development and Early Education Workforce Online Reporting and Knowledge System (DCDEE WORKS) on December 30th, 2016, there have been a total of 16,841 users registered.

DCDEE Workforce Online Reporting and Knowledge System (WORKS)

The Workforce Education Unit utilizes the Workforce Online Reporting and Knowledge System to qualify the early childhood workforce.  This portal is available online and requires that users maintain an individual NCID username and password.  In order to be qualified for an early childhood workforce position, all applicants must create an account through DCDEE WORKS.

The Workforce Education Unit no longer accepts paper applications by mail for education qualification. Applicants electronically apply in their DCDEE WORKS account and upload all other education documentation except their official transcripts.  Official transcripts are the only documents the Workforce Education Unit accepts by mail.  Official transcripts can be mailed to:
